FaceTime SharePlay is "muting" my friends

When I share my screen with SharePlay while on FaceTime, it mutes the person I'm FaceTiming (but not from their end). To go into more detail, their screen still says their mic is on, but I can't hear them until I stop sharing my screen. Super frustrating and I can't figure out how to fix it. Please help!
