MacBook Air M2 (2022) – Sudden Black Screen & RM2k+ Repair Quote. Anyone Facing This?

Hi everyone,

I’m sharing my recent experience with my MacBook Air M2 (13”, bought in December 2023). The laptop is not even two years old and was used very lightly as a spare device, mainly for Word, Excel and simple work files. Suddenly, the screen went completely black and the device could no longer turn on. I brought it to an authorized service provider and was told it’s a hardware issue. The repair quote for the screen was around RM2,000–RM2,200, which is extremely frustrating considering how new and lightly-used the laptop is. At that price, I might as well add a bit more and buy a new machine. What upset me even more was being told that because I didn’t buy AppleCare, there’s no support available. I also checked online and noticed several people reporting the same black-screen issue around the same timeframe. It made me wonder if this might be a common hardware fault. This is my family’s first MacBook (we all use other Apple devices), and the experience has been very disappointing. Has anyone else faced the same problem with the M2 MacBook Air? How did your repair or replacement process go? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting Mac Power:

Refer to the following...

A. Black Mac Screen:
