Can't add contacts using Contact app in Tahoe 26

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Tahoe 26.1 and I now find it nearly impossible to enter a new contact on my Macbook using the Contacts app. I can do it easily on my iPhone, but when I try to enter a new contact on my Macbook, after I enter the name, then try to click to enter the phone number or email address, the new contact just completely disappears and the app shows me some other existing contact. This is super-frustrating! Have others encountered this? Is anyone at Apple working to fix this?

I've had this problem for years. Not specifically when clicking to enter a phone or email, but just after a few seconds while in the middle of creating a new contact. It just disappears and then I'm shown an existing contact, as you describe.

My contacts are in a Google account, so I've wondered if it's specific to that — and maybe doesn't happen if your contacts are in iCloud. I always go to the Google Contacts website now to create them!

Thanks for this information. I have contacts in both Apple Contacts and Google Contacts, but have not specifically tried to synch them. (This does seem to result in duplicate contacts in the Apple app. But if I enter a contact into Google it does not automatically show up in the Apple app. I am not sure about the impact of iCloud. I have some things saving to iCloud, but not specifically my contacts, although they are clearly synched between my two Apple devices. You have at least given me some things to explore. If anyone else has input on this issue, I would love to hear it.
