I can't add my Epson ET-4800 printer to my Macbook Air with Apple A4 Chip.

I can't add my Epson ET-4800 printer to my Macbook Air with Apple A4 Chip. I recently moved from an old Macbook Pro that printed with no trouble. I've tried everything, -- reloading all the EPSON software & drivers with EPSON help, to re-doing the Wifi connection with an Apple person by phone, to a recent visit to an Apple Store. I can print from my phone using the EPSON Smart panel. But not from my laptop. I was told by an Apple technician that there seems to be a problem with the M4 chip not recognising the EPSON software. Does anyone know if there is a new download that will solve this? All help gratefully received. Thanks.

The Epson ET-4800 is supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint when networked (Wi-Fi, Ethernet) and no Epson software or drivers are required when so configured. Although Epson released a scanner driver and Epson Scan in Sept 2025, the printer driver was last updated in Oct 2024. That may be incompatible with macOS Tahoe now.

I recommend that you go with Apple's AirPrint which will support your M4 Mac and your iPhone once configured.

With the Eco-Tank powered on and currently connected via Wi-Fi, visit System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

  1. If your ET-4800 is present in the Printers listing, click once on it and on the resulting panel, click the Remove Printer… button. On that new panel, click Remove Printer.
  2. Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax… button
    1. Under the Default toolbar category, you should see an entry for the ET-4800 and to the right Bonjour. This means it was detected.
    2. Click the preceding Printer name entry and that will automatically activate the Use: selector to choose AirPrint (even though it may not indicate that name). Then click Add.
  3. Right-click on your new Printers entry and choose Set Default Printer.
  4. Print something.

For scanning, AirPrint should allow Apple's ImageCapture application to see the ET-4800. Your iPhone should also now have the ability to print to the ET-4800.
