A 2017 MacBook can likely run macOS 12 Monterey or maybe macOS 13 Ventura, each or which is generations newer than High Sierra and still quite capable of internet communication with the newer Safari browser version it supports. Other browsers are available and supported in Big Sur and newer OS versions.
