MacBook Pro printing to PDF stuck in 'trying to print' loop

Issue in printing to a PDF . Using MacBook pro with Tahoe OS. When I make a clipping from a newspaper I click on print. Once in printing I select create a PDF. That used to work. Now after I get the pdf the dialogue box says " printer is "trying to print". If you hit cancel it returns the same message. I have to go to my history to get out of the site.

Troubleshooting the GUI:

A. Create New User:

For temporary use, create a new Administrator. See what happens when you log in to it. Do you still get this issue? If not, then is it a misconfiguration in the current user. If so, then you'd likely have to reinstall the macOS. Go Here: Add a User or Group on Mac - Apple Support

B. Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple SupportImportant: Prior to installing an update or performing a reinstallation, to prevent data loss, be certain to create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac prior to updating. That way, you can have something to restore it from, should anything go wrong with the change.

C. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Report this to AppleApple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback Apple receives on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in upcoming updates.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: when this all started, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL to this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Try different Web browser.

Troubleshooting Printing to PDF:

Go here: Save a Document as a PDF on Mac - Apple Support

macOS does not provide "create a PDF" option; all there is, is what is seen in the screenshot. So, what is the app you are using here. An app, however, might overrule that, if printing is part of its GUI. So, what's the app you are using here?

"I may not have been sufficiently clear. I do not want the PDF to print at that point. I am just trying to save it. (I will be using it with another pdf page, then putting them back to back to back in keynote. That has always worked until Tahoe. Now it will put the pdf on my desktop appropriately, but then I can't get out of printing mode."

Emphasize on this Issue:

A. What do you mean by "printing mode"? Are you at the print screen? Editing PDF documents requires software of its own (i.e. Adobe Acrobat). Elsewise, it's a matter of printing it all > scanning it in > and performing edits on an app (i.e.MS Word).

B. Provide a Screenshot of this:

Can you provide a screenshot? That would most certainly help. Go Here: Take a Screenshot on your Mac - Apple Support

IMPORTANT: Block out any personal info (i.e. names and time) by covering it with red-colored rectangles and such, through use of the Photos app).

As soon as someone says what app am I using I think they are always using iOS. I don't know anything about GUI. I am using a canon printer. I feel like I am at the equivalent of trignomentry and you're answering me in Calculus. All I know is this all worked until I uploaded Tahoe. I downloaded a one page document from The Boston Globe NewsPaper From there I tried to save as a PDF. See first graphic. I was able to save the PDF to my desktop. The next step I took was to try to exit from that page and I got stuck with the second graphic. At the bottom you will notice that it says to tap print again or cancel. I didn't want to print a hard copy and cancel did not work. I have since found another work around so am all set. All I know is what once worked no longer did Once I have opted to do a print> I got the second graphic

Thank you for the followup reply.

Thank you for the screenshot.

Q1. "As soon as someone says what app am I using I think they are always using iOS. I don't know anything about GUI. I am using a canon printer."

A1. GUI: Acronym for Graphical User Interface/ It contains all the images and layout of screen, form the iOS to an app. For Google: define:graphical user interface

Q2. "[...]I feel like I am at the equivalent of trignomentry and you're answering me in Calculus. All I know is this all worked until I uploaded Tahoe.[...]"

A2. First off, I would know NOTHING of your tech skills, and taking part in this forum is nothing of a pre-requisite for Calculus, for that matter.

Boot in Safe Mode: Start up your Mac in Safe Mode - Apple Support. In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install.

Q3. "Once I have opted to do a print> I got the second graphic"

A3. It would seem to me that you are in a loop. As for the application, is this occurring in only certain apps or, is it the entire macOS?
