Reset the iMac's printing system and re-add the HP printer.

If re-adding the printer does not work…

Update the printer firmware. See page 80 here:

The printer reset function is on page 86. Reset the printer.

This printer does support AirPrint, which means vendor drivers are not required. While you can try updating and using the HP drivers, I’d suggest using the AirPrint path, as that avoids needing vendor printer drivers.

I have a 2019 iMac running sequoia 15.7.2. My Epson scanner works well, my HP LaserJet 400 M401n (5DC12D)is recognised but when I attempt to print, I get the error message: "Unable to get printer status." The printer did print some files, but not when I asked… or instructed it to print. I did some random clicking to see what worked, and teo of the test files printed. Only two. And I can't say why.

I recently installed a new router and password. Eveything else works. But not the printer. I tried with different applications. The verizon router has been around for a while, but perhaps the HP printer's driver needs updating.

Can anyone help with this?
