Touch ID not working to unlock machine

my macbook pro m1, is telling me i need to enter my password in order to enable touch ID every time the laptop goes to sleep. I have already confirmed it is not signing me out when it is inactive, just locking the screen. I have also tried removing and re-adding my finger print but that doesnt work either. I am on 15.7.2. this started a week ago

the current Sequoia is 15.7.3 I would start there

Keep your Mac up to date - Apple Support

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

no resolve—

Remove all finger prints..

toggle the options off and then back on again to effect the plist

Set your TouchID back up

There are a few instances where Touch ID will not be accepted by macOS:

If you restarted your Mac, or if you're not logged into your user account.

If you have not unlocked your Mac for 48 hours.

If you are trying to unlock Security & Privacy

If you are trying to unlock Users & Groups Settings (when FileVault is on)

If 5 wrong fingerprint attempts

Use Touch ID on Mac

Use Touch ID on Mac - Apple Support

If Touch ID isn't working on Mac - Apple Support
