Editing an Object’s Title?

I’m putting in text messages in my book, using a colored box labeled with the character’s name in the object’s title. But the title floats over the inserted shape too high, so I was wondering if there’s a way to bring the title closer to the object.

When you select the Title for an object from the Style panel, that title box distance from the object is fixed, and you cannot change it. Apple is doing your thinking for you…

The alternative:

  1. Insert, scale, and position a Text box above your object in the shape of the previous Title box.
    1. While the Text box is still selected, visit the Arrange panel and set Text Wrap to None.
    2. Enter your title with font attribute preferences and appropriate alignment in the Text box.
  2. Press and hold the shift key as you select the Text box and the object.
    1. Now Group these two objects, either with option+cmd+G, or from the Arrange panel.
