USB-C to Display port not working on MacBook Pro

USB-C to Display port not working on MacBook Pro.

I have a 16" Nov 2023 MacBook Pro M3 and a Samsung LS27A800UNPXXU monitor.

I want to connect via the Display port on the monitor, I bought an active HDMI to Display port cable, this works fine, but gets very hot. So I thought I should be able to go USB-C to Display Port instead, so bought such a cable.

But the MacBook doesn't seem to recognise the display, I've tried all 3 USB-C ports on the MacBook with the same result. When you first plug the cable into the Mac, the monitor 'wakes up' and says Display Port, then says no signal.

The cable is new from Amazon today and other people on the Amazon listing said they have been using it for a purpose such as this.

What can I try to make this work? Mac is up to date etc. Thanks.

Is this the only display you have connected? Or is this an additional one to other displays you already have?

If additional one, how many other displays are connected, and what CPU do you have exactly? M3 Pro or M3 Max?

If you go to System Settings ➜ Displays, does the Samsung display appear there as an option?
