Is CURRYS ok for battery replacement?

Hi! I want to change my iPhone 14 battery (80%) and was wondering if Currys (uk) are Apple authorised? I was having trouble finding authorised websites, since the Apple Store is quite far.

It does not appear Currys in the UK is an authorized service provider.

They are an authorized seller, but not authorized for repairs.

You can find service locations using Katana-San's link which I have confirmed works.

I was able to see that Curry's UK is an authorized seller. But I wasn't able to confirm they are themselves an authorized Apple Service provider. From what I read is they will likely send your phone to someone else to service your phone, which to me wouldn't be something I'd be willing to do. Being an authorized seller isn't the same as being an authorized service provider.

Based on that, personally, I wouldn't trust them to replace the battery in my iPhone. Are you nowhere near an Apple Store, where you know you'll get an authentic battery in your phone?

No they have some tech advisors but they don't service Apple Products. Authorised third party repairers are very rare in UK. Plenty of third party bodgers on the high street and malls.

I usually mail off my phones for battery repairs, takes about 4 days, well away from Xmas!

Yeap… I’m not planning on travelling to London any time soon, and most places I’ve called that can do genuine replacements said they will take hours (as I want to replace 2 batteries). Which is weird

Be VERY VERY careful. Many service providers can say anything to get you to open your wallet. But ONLY Apple Authorized Service Providers have access to authentic Apple Parts. If someone tells you they are authorized, but they aren't, they'll install an aftermarket battery in your phone, which could cause a host of other problems and make your phone ineligible for service with Apple directly ever again.

It may not be super convenient, but my phone will ONLY EVER be touched by Apple.

I had asked in a different post if I my data is lost and they said no because it’s only the battery they change🤨

You need to backup your iPhone before you take it to have the battery replaced. In most situations, a battery replacement will wipe the data on your iPhone. Apple will NEVER guarantee your data will be saved for a battery replacement.

Oh… I don’t pay for cloud storage, I’ve read that if I do the backup on iTunes on my laptop it will be the exact same- any case you know if this is true?

You can backup on either with the same results.

Both is safer. You can do an awful lot of handy stuff by paying the price of a Starbucks once a month for iCloud.

Why don't you pay for iCloud Storage? Apple gave you 5GB of free iCloud Storage initially. For $1/month, you can move up to 50GB, which you really should do. It would simplify your life so much, permitting you to backup your phone every night, when you plug it in to charge, with Wifi turned on. This way, you can NEVER be more than a few hours out with your data, should something go wrong. And things GO WRONG. You surely pay more than $12/year for other things, so this is a very small investment in securing your backup is always current.

See how to do that here --> Buy iCloud+ or upgrade your current storage plan - Apple Support

If your friends were truly backing up their iPhone to iCloud, it wouldn't be possible to lose the backup. You must have friends who don't know either what they're talking about or how to actually backup to iCloud.

Look, it doesn't matter to me if you don't believe us. Or even if you don't want to pay for iCloud. But then losing your data will be ALL on you. No one else.
