So I got an iPad Air 2 and I was wondering if I could get it to iOS 16 to play Fortnite and people are saying that you can’t do that so is like physically impossible like the hardware is to slow or smth. If its impossible is there a way to get Fortnite working without cloud gaming stuff cause it’s alway so laggy and studery or smth.

The iPad Air 2 originally ran iOS 8.1 when Apple first introduced it in October 2014. It received seven major iOS / iPadOS updates, and you can update it to the latest release of iPadOS 15.
It cannot run iPadOS 16, 17, 18, or 26.
The developers of the Fortnite app have chosen to require a minimum of iOS 17.0 / iPadOS 17.0 to run their app, so you cannot run that app on an iPad Air 2. The description of the Fortnite app includes a list of compatible iPhones and iPads, so it is possible that even some iPhones and iPads which can run iOS 17.0 / iPadOS 17.0 might be unable to run Fortnite due to, e.g., lack of RAM.
