QuickBooks Online shows “Something’s not right” when opening Journal Entries on MacBook Air M4 in Lockdown Mode.

Hi everyone,

I recently encountered a strange issue on my MacBook Air M4 while working in QuickBooks Online (USA). I was auditing my client’s data and needed to access various Journal Entries. Although my QBO role was set to Admin level, every time I tried opening any Journal Entry I received the error “Something’s not right.”

At first, I assumed it was a permission problem in QuickBooks, but users with the same access level had no issues at all. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the problem occurred only when my MacBook was in Lockdown Mode. Once I disabled Lockdown Mode, QuickBooks Online immediately started working normally and all Journal Entries became accessible.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Is this compatibility-related, and is disabling Lockdown Mode the only fix?

Any insights would be appreciated.

After extensive testing, I confirmed that the issue is directly caused by Apple’s Lockdown Mode interfering with certain web functionalities used by QuickBooks Online.

✅ Why This Happens

Lockdown Mode on macOS is designed to provide extremely high security protection by restricting certain web technologies, scripts, and behaviors. QuickBooks Online relies heavily on dynamic JavaScript features and secured communication layers.

When Lockdown Mode is enabled on a MacBook Air M4 running macOS, some of these QBO functions are blocked, causing QuickBooks to fail when retrieving specific data — in this case, Journal Entries — and triggering the generic error message:

“Something’s not right.”

Even though your QBO role is Admin, the restriction happens at the system/browser security layer, not inside QuickBooks.

✅ How to Fix the Issue

The solution is simple:

1. Turn Off Lockdown Mode

  • Go to System Settings
  • Select Privacy & Security
  • Scroll down to Lockdown Mode
  • Click Turn Off…
  • Restart the browser if needed

After disabling Lockdown Mode, reopen QuickBooks Online and the Journal Entries should load without any issues.

📝 Important Notes

  • This issue does not come from QuickBooks permissions.
  • Other users with the same QBO access but no Lockdown Mode enabled will not experience the issue.
  • If you must use Lockdown Mode for security reasons, consider using a separate non-protected device or testing with a different browser profile (though results may vary).
  • QuickBooks Online currently does not officially support Lockdown Mode, and certain pages may fail to load while it is enabled.

✅ Conclusion

If you encounter “Something’s not right” errors in QuickBooks Online when accessing Journal Entries (or other dynamic pages) on a Mac running Lockdown Mode, the issue is caused by Apple’s enhanced security restrictions.

Turning off Lockdown Mode resolves the problem immediately.

Brief Summary

You encountered QBO Journal Entry errors caused by macOS Lockdown Mode blocking essential web features. Disabling Lockdown Mode restores full QuickBooks Online functionality.
