Mail app on iPadOS not remembering resized new mail window

I understood that the new system of windows in ipados26 should remember the size of a window that had been resized next time that window was opened.

That is not happening for me in the mail app; it not remembering size set for the compose new mail window (or indeed any other email window such as read, reply, forward, etc) once it has been resized.

It simply opens up the email window every time in the default size setting, which is a centralised window roughly 35% of the total screen size.

Resized screens are remembered with other apps, just not with the Mail app.

Can anybody shed any light on this? Is it default behaviour or do I have an issue? If so, any ideas as to how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated.

In case it is relevant, I am using an iPad Air (M3) with the latest iPadOS 26.1.

I must say that overall, I do quite like the new window multi-tasking experience in iPadOS 26 (after having adapted to it) but not at all how it is implemented in the mail app! I think it is a totally unintuitive mess that has added so many extra and unnecessary clicks and presses to perform the simplistic and most frequent of tasks as well as making emails so much more difficult to read and manage! Deeply frustrating!

The previous user workflow in this app was seamless and user friendly; it really didn’t need ‘improvement’ in my opinion! I think this revised version of the app is a significant backward step and I have left feedback for Apple to this effect, detailing all the issues I have with it.
