Borderless Printing in Pages not working

Borderless printing does not work with Pages 14.4 Canon TR8620.

I have read other posts on this and the remedies recommended do not work. The printer will print borderless just fine from Word 16.103.2. This is with all margins set to 0 in Pages as recommended, newest Canon drivers, and setting "US Letter Borderless within the Pages Document Panel. The problem seems to arise in "Page Setup" where Pages refuses to retain a borderless media setting. I'm guessing that this information might be resetting the printer before it receives other information from Pages but honestly, I'm just frustrated that I can't use pages to print borderless as I've been wanting to get away from Word for some time now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply but your information does not agree with my experience or I did not fully understand your reply.

That is now what I see. In the panel, Document->Document under the heading, "Printer & Paper Size" I see two drop down menus, one for the printer, set to "Canon TR8600 series" and the other to paper size, set to "US Letter Borderless". This option is one of many predefined borderless options that come with the printer driver.

I wrote: "This is with all margins set to 0 in Pages as recommended...". These were the previously posted recommendations and I followed all of them. I have tried both turning on and off the various document components as well.

I understand that. But I think it's an actual bug somewhere between Pages and the Canon Printer driver. I do not have this problem with printing from other Apple apps, only with Pages.

I understand. I am have been using Word professionally since Version 1.0 and consider myself an expert in all facets of its use. That's why I'd like to switch to Pages. I am retired now and the the level of functionality that Word provides is now more of a productivity hindrance these days than a positive due to MS's idiosyncratic interface choices. I'm not looking to switch to something similar, I'm looking to something less.

By "Sleeping until you are done," I meant no alarm clock jolting you out sleep to start the work day. You may still want to have an alarm, but I certainly don't. 😎

The Pages user guide is really the only documentation Apple provides for Pages, and then it is asking questions here.

The Pages product team may surprise you. In the last 15+ years of using Pages, they have reached out via my AppleID email to ask further questions about a feedback item. Exactly three times… and once six months after I submitted the feedback item.

There is no US Letter Borderless printer selection from the Document's Printer selection. Even when you create one so named in the Page Setup… panel by that name, with zero margins and click OK. It will be referenced in the first sentence as Other.

That said, selecting that custom page does not change the displayed margin settings on the Documents panel. One must deselect header/footer, and reduce all margins to 0 in. At this point, you can press shift+cmd+L to toggle the Layout view and no outline of the document will appear indicating the absence of margins.

On the Pages Print… panel, is there a Canon TR8620 driver selection for borderless printing? If not, then you are at the mercy of the printer presets and the notion of Destination Paper Size in the Paper Handling section. You may need to disable scale to fit paper size too.

Just because Word 16.103.2 can achieve borderless printing does not mean that you can with Pages. Entirely different applications, since Pages is no Word clone and may not do borderless with your Canon printer. I would not consider Pages an escape from Word owing to the huge feature gap between the two applications and lack of true document interoperability — since Pages translates on opening or exporting Word documents. Apple does not guarantee that translation effectiveness.

Alternatives to Microsoft could be SoftMaker's Office product which is a reasonably faithful Office clone, or one of the free Office suites such as LibreOffice, or FreeOffice.

I have a monochrome Samsung laser supported by Apple AirPrint. It does not have a US Letter Borderless setting, so I spoke what I saw here in my Pages v14.4 on Tahoe 26.1.

Whether it is a bug in Pages, or purely how Pages is designed would be up to the Apple Pages product team. As no Apple employees participate in these fellow user supported communities, you should send the Pages product team a bug report via the Provide Pages Feedback menu item in the application. They may or most likely will not contact you via email about this.

The next version of Pages, whose arrival is slower than the second coming may or may not resolve this borderless issue. Only the Pages product team knows that timing.

Ok. Understand retired. Sleeping until you are done, and simplification of word-processing requirements. Pages will be something less alright, provided it does not terminally aggravate your writing needs.

There is the following, if you have not already seen it…
