Apple Mail App Freezing

I couldn't use the icon to close the program or at the top menu bar - I clicked on it with no response. Can apple please open this conversation back up because it is still happening. Thanks.

In most apps clicking the red pill button closes the Window, this does not quit the app itself.

You can see running apps with the HUD (heads up display) Command Tab.. you can tab your way along ( or use the mouse) then Command Q will quit the application.

I would try with app quit— launching it hold the Shift key down and compare your results
