Why are older text messages not visible on iPhone 17 Pro and MacBook Air running iOS26.1 and Tahoe 26.1?

Messages settings are set to Keep Messages: Forever.

I have always been able to scroll through years of text messages, if I choose.

Now using my iPhone 17 Pro running iOS26.1 and MacBook Air running Tahoe 26.1, my older messages are searchable, but not visible to scroll. I can scroll back for approximately 6 months of visible messages. Is there a setting to allow my older messages to be visible or is this an iOS26.1 or Tahoe 26.1 issue or change ?

I'm also running 26 and am able to scroll back as far as I please- that's odd you can search old messages but can't scroll back to them.
