IPad mail app jumps to bottom of screen, repeatedly

Since the last ios update, the Apple Mail app on my iPad is almost unusable. When I'm typing a message or replying to a message, the screen jumps to the very bottom of all the text, past quoted text. I can scroll up again, but the minute I start to type again, the screen jumps. I have to compose email somewhere else and copy/paste it to the Mail screen.

Has anyone else run into this, and more important, is there a fix?
