iPhone backup says not enough storage

I am currently trying to backup my iPhone. I have a 16Pro max. Current updated software. So I went through all the options for what to backup and removed everything except the essentials. Contacts, a few files, and that’s it. Far less than 5gig. But it keeps saying that it is not enough storage space. There are no photos, videos, games, apps nothing but contacts and a few files.
