Find My isn’t a battery hog by default. It works smarter than people expect.
Here’s the quick breakdown:
• Find My doesn’t constantly broadcast your location.
It updates in bursts, using low-power Bluetooth, Wi-Fi signals, and cell towers before falling back to full GPS. (GPS is the hungry one.)
• Battery impact is usually tiny.
If your phone is just doing normal Find My updates, most people won’t notice any drain.
But it can drain more than usual if:
- You’re sharing your live location with many people in “Share My Location”.
- You’re tracking several AirTags or devices that keep waking the radios.
- You’re in an area with a poor network signal — Find My keeps retrying.
- You’re using “Find My network” heavily (e.g., lost device mode pinging constantly).
Fast way to reduce battery drain:
- In Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Find My, switch to While Using instead of Always (if you don’t need background updates).
- Turn off Share My Location temporarily.
- Disable AirTag item alerts if you track a small army of objects.
Overall: Find My normally sips battery, not chugs it. If your battery is dropping fast, something else is likely the culprit.
