Need help syncing to icloud

I cannot connect to icloud with my new ipad to sync due to it asking for a password to a machine i no longer have. How do I get rid of that imac in my account

Assuming you have an Apple device associated with your Apple Account aside from the iMac, if it’s an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your Apple Account] > [scroll down to] [your iMac] > Remove From Account.

The new iPad would not show up under my devices, as Apple doesn’t know it’s yours yet. You would need another device, perhaps an iPhone or older iPad, to perform the steps I suggested above.
