As you have purchased directly from Apple you should be entitled to return the product, if still within 14 days of purchase. It would be worth contacting them for clarification.
Yes, that was the release date, and it will be identified as a November 2024 model, no matter when it was actually manufactured. While it is unusual for a battery to be completely depleted upon arrival of a new device, I guess it is possible. I would check the battery status to determine if there is an ongoing issue.
The system doesn't report any problems, and it will probably work as it should. However, there is a strange feeling remaining that you don't know how long the battery has been discharged and whether this will affect its lifespan over time. In any case, the positive feelings you get when you open a new Mac were quite spoiled in my case...
To be more precise: I already did that, right here in the Czech Republic where I live. Apple acted correctly and replaced my product, piece for piece. Today I got a new one—with the same problem: empty battery! 😂 Probably from the same batch and the same warehouse...
Anyway, thank you very much for your advice, stedman1 !! I'll probably keep the device because I don't know how and when I would get another one. A refund doesn't solve the problem, I need that MacBook. It's just a strange feeling that I haven't experienced with Apple in 30 years, and to be honest, I don't even know how to deal with it. I guess I just have to hope that the battery will be OK and that it will work as it should. Somehow strange....
By what means have you determined that it is one year old? That model was released in November 2024, but is still available today.
So November 2024 is the release date. I understood it as the month and year of fabrication. So it it might be good news for me. I still feel uncomfortable by getting a device with an empty battery. Apple's own website states that for the health of the battery, it should never be stored completely discharged.
From Apple? Or, from an Apple Authorized reseller?
