Windows randomly move or disappear while typing in macOS 26

Hello everyone,

I’m facing a very weird issue since upgrading to macOS 26. While typing — EVERYWHERE — all open windows suddenly move to the corners or edges of the screen, or sometimes even disappear off-screen. This happens randomly and quite often.

My setup:

Mac model: M1 MacBook air

macOS version: 26.2

Apps affected: VS Code, Chrome, Safari, Terminal etc

External monitors: Yes

What happens:

1. I start typing normally.

2. Without touching the window title bar or trackpad intentionally, windows suddenly snap to corners or move off-screen.

3. I have to manually drag them back every time.

This happens even when I’m not touching the trackpad, so it doesn’t seem like a dragging gesture problem.

Steps I already tried:

• Disabled “drag windows to screen edges to tile” and similar tiling options in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Windows.

• Disabled three-finger drag in Accessibility → Pointer Control → Trackpad Options.

• Ran “killall Dock” to reset window management.

• Quit any third-party window management.

• Installed the latest 26.2 update.

None of these helped — the issue still persists.

I have a screen recording that clearly shows windows jumping to the corners while typing. Please let me know how I can attach or share it for reference.

It feels like a system-wide bug introduced in macOS 26 since it happens across all apps and only started after the update.

Would really appreciate if others can confirm they’re seeing this too, or if anyone from Apple can provide a workaround or fix.

Thank you!

Besides the "click wallpaper to show desktop", which in your case is already turned off, there are other ways to "reveal desktop", and it is possible that one of them is being activated.

These include a trackpad gesture, usually spreading four fingers; or a keyboard shortcut.

I wonder if you accidentally press this shortcut.

Go to System Settings->Keyboard, click "Keyboard Shortcuts", and select "Mission Control".

What do you see there for "Show Desktop"? Try unchecking, if it is checked, and see if it helps.
