Essential Wireless Features are Off

AirDrop requires both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to be active to work properly, even if you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are Off: Check your Control Center to make sure both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons are lit up (usually blue or green). If either is off, AirDrop will be disabled.

Personal Hotspot is On: AirDrop cannot function if your Personal Hotspot is active, as it uses the same Wi-Fi capabilities. You must turn the Personal Hotspot off.

Airplane Mode or Focus Mode: If Airplane Mode or certain Focus Modes (like 'Do Not Disturb') are active, they can disable the wireless features AirDrop needs.

AirDrop Receiving Settings

The AirDrop setting on your device or the receiving device might be set too restrictively.

Receiving Off: If AirDrop is set to Receiving Off, it will be unavailable.

Contacts Only: If it's set to Contacts Only, and the person you're sending to is not in your contacts (with their phone number or Apple ID email address saved in their contact card), AirDrop may not work for that person.

Check and Adjust

Open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner).

Press and hold the network settings card (the box with Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).

Tap the AirDrop icon and ensure it is set to Contacts Only or Everyone for 10 Minutes. (If sending to a non-contact, you must select Everyone for 10 Minutes).
