iMovie titles remain landscape in vertical video projects

I am trying to make a reel for instagram with a vertical aspect ratio. I have made the edits in imovie and am happy with that. I exported the video out to iphotos to crop out the black bars to make it to vertical, but when I imported it back to imovie and tried to add titles, the titles are still landscape instead of portrait to match the video. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the parameters of the text box, so is there a way to force imovie to recognize that my video is portrait not landscape? I know that I could make the video in the app preview thing, but I want the better title options that the movie option has rather than the extremely limited options in the app preview. This really should not be this complicated! Please help! Thank you!!
