Emoji Skin Color message won't go away until you shake the window and it bugs

Hi!

I encountered the following problem while trying to use the Santa Claus emoji. For some reason, the information Popup about the skin colors was simply not going away even after pressing "Ok". I tried in a different editor, same issue.

Finally I guess I managed to break it by just getting really mad and shaking the popup until it somehow understood that it had to work (although for some reason it also changed the color of the emoji window , but just once). Then, after that, the emoji skin color notification finally disappeared and I was able to use it the way I wanted to use it - that is, correctly. Not the way Apple wanted me to use it, which was, not being able to use it at all.

It's all documented in the video attached below.

Anyway - I was wondering, has anyone encountered any issues with emojis with the newest versions of Mac OS? Before the last update, I remember that trying to open the Emoji window basically bugged by entire system, to the point where I was unable to type anything at all - well, that's not entirely true, I was able to press shortcuts like the Control+Left or Control+Right to switch desktop, but any letter was basically unusable.

I would do what works.

you want to drill down on your issue:

—A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

*** (if you are using a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries— connect the charging cable, this will make the wired keyboard successful Safe Boot your Mac.)

unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS
