keypad entry not registered in trying to accept a call

I have been trying to reach Apple support regarding my watch. When the call comes in you're asked to "press 1" to accept the call. Most of the time pressing 1 has no effect and the incoming call is lost. Occasionally, however, it does register.

I notice that different keypads are displayed in the two different situations. When pressing one has no effect that keypad is black. When the keypad has an effect the keypad is differently colored. It is one color at the top of the screen fading into a different color at the bottom. I don't remember the colors specifically. I think the shades are yellowish and blueish.

I have iOS 26.1.

Thank you. I've made the change. I’ll have to wait to see if it works. 🤞

Surprised to see that this is a long standing problem. I have an 12 Pro. Is it a hardware problem? If this fix works it would seem not. How has it gone unfixed for so long?

Give then different results I got with different key pads I was guessing it was a problem introduced by the “glass” operating system.
