I have an iPhone 16 updated to IOS26. I am keen to get an Apple Watch but when I get to the final section, when I try to check compatibility, I can’t go any further. I’ve made all the required choices to get to this point- what am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance!

In your post, you say you have an iPhone 16 with iOS 26. But your screen shot is trying to verify compatibility for an iPhone 7. Can you please explain how you got to that screen shot on your iPhone 16?
From this Apple site: Apple Watch and iPhone compatibility - Apple Support, you can see the following watches are compatible with your iPhone 16 at iOS 26.
I didn’t choose that screen, it came up automatically. I selected my preferred watch, (Apple Watch Ultra 3 (GPS+4G) Cellular 49mm) in the store, then selected a data plan and then to the screen shown. I may have misunderstood, but I read it as checking compatibility with iPhone 7 *or newer*. This has happened consistently ever since started looking at this some weeks ago.
