Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Just started in the last week even though I select desktop as my location for saved files. A royal pain having to retrieve them from my "recent" folder.

Recents is a search folder. It shows what has been modified recently.
It doesn’t store anything. Your file is still saved wherever you saved it.
