iMovie 10.1.11 won't import audio

I have an iMac (early 2011) with OS10.13.6 / 12Gig Ram.

I using iMovie 10.1.1.

When I try to import .mp4 files, I get video with no audio.

When I play the .mp4 files with Quicktime Player, they play with video AND audio.

What gives? What am I doing wrong? Never had this problem before.

iMovie likes the AAC audio codec with Mp4. Not all Mp4 vids have AAC audio.

Put the video on your desktop and convert it to Mp4/AAC with the free download, Handbrake, that you can get here:

https://handbrake.fr/

Do the conversion even if the clip already is in Mp4/AAC. Handbrake will do it by default.
