my watch 4 series keeps locking while on my wrist

Open the Watch app from your iPhone, then click "Passcode" on the 'My Watch' tab., then scroll down to "Wrist Detection" and turn it on. That should ensure you Watch only unlocks when you remove it from your wrist, but stays unlocks while you're wearing it.
