apple cloud Id phone call

Yes, I got a call today from someone claiming to be from "apple support". said my I cloud was breached.

downloaded remote user software. gave him access to my laptop computer. claimed my pc and in home network wireless provider service router were not up to date. said would help turn on wireless router and laptop firewalls if I either:

a. logged into my bank portal to see a credit to be posted to my account for 300 (didn't do)

b. go to supermarket and purchase $300.00 steamer gift cards (did n't do)

is apple support really making these calls or was it a scam?
