when i add new contacts on my iphone8 they appear on my husbands iphone5c. he deleted them and now they’re gone from mine...what do i do?

You must be sharing an Apple ID and iCloud account. If you sync contacts with iCloud, whatever you do on one device that is signed into that iCloud account syncs across all devices signed into that iCloud account. You should each have your own Apple ID and set up Family Sharing so that you can share purchased content.
