ipad is updated, it will not stay on long enough to back up on ipad to cloud or itunes

Sounds like you may have a battery issue? Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation. If you have an iPad 2, it's getting quite old at this point.

You definitely have a failing battery.

Bring your iPad 2 into your nearest, “local” Apple Store for diagnosis, evaluation and potential options.
