I want to keep deleted emails for 6-12 months but Mail only allows up to 1 month. So I have opted for "never" delete, but would like to remove the older emails to Trash. Again, no option to do this it seems, only remove them all. Is there a workaround?

Since the trash bin really is not meant as a long term storage space why not simply create some folders named "keep?" and then go through those to move things you actually want to delete into the trash?

Probably not without writing involved AppleScript code.
Disappointing but at least I know to stop wasting time trying!
