Apple Watch pairing issue - new phone

My current issue is the pairing of the watch to my iphone. So it's an iPhone 7, but the phone needed repairs, and was erased. Now, I get notifications as if they're paired together, but the watch app on the phone itself doesn't show how it is paired. I can't figure out a solution, nor do I want to risk messing it up. it also does appear as a device under my apple id. i considered removing, but again, dont want to risk not being able to pair up.
