Apple Watch series 3 - water - swimming

Do I have to turn the water drop on to “lock” the water or I don’t need to do that? Can I just jump in the water and swim?

The Water Lock function only locks the screen to prevent splashes causing false taps, and it should activate automatically when it detects swimming. Water Lock does not change the physical water resistance of the watch hardware.
