It would seem you need to go to your sewing machine web site and download the firmware update application for your sewing machine.

I have no idea either. I was trying to download an update to my sewing machine and this is what comes up
What's a upf file?
If you are talking about a pdf file you can open it using finder or a pdf reader.
if it's really upf then you should read about the possible format here
