Can OS 10.12.6 Sierra backup and restore an iPhone with iOS 12.4 ??

My iTunes does fine right now as I have iOS 10.3.3 on my iPhone. Apple keeps wanting me to upgrade to iOS 12.4 and I want to know if my backups in iTunes will work. The article said it won't restore the data. I read where you need Mojave to backup the new iOS and I can't put it on a MacBook Pro with a HDD (it said you need an SSD to work).
You don't need an SSD for Mojave to work. It will run on an HDD.
What version of iTunes do you have? If you have the most up to date version of iTunes, it should be able to work with IOS 12.4.
When you connect your iPhone to your Mac, does iTunes recognize it or are you seeing an error message? If you are seeing an error message, have you tried upgrading the version of iTunes yet?
