Actually it would. iPhones are regional devices and not all carriers in all countries will support the iPhone from a different region because of frequency differences as deggie has indicated. As well as the warranty issues.

If you find a cell service provider that will accept it and the frequencies match. You will have to return to Malaysia for service.

It will affect service of the phone.

Isn't it just the matter of getting a local SIM card?
