After migration, new imac won’t accept login password

I just migrated to a new imac from a time machine backup. Migration finished, but new machine wont accept my login password (even though the old hint is still there).

I tried all likely mistypings, without success - because the migration assistant had required me to create a new admin password and I simply used the same user acct password (from the old imac) to do so. I’m not being offered any option to log in with my apple id either.

Thanks!

Thank you for helping. In the meantime, I discovered the command-r reboot, and was eventually able to navigate menus ("utilities" etc.) to a command line prompt, typed "resetpassword", pressed enter, and voila, a dialog to reset all user's passwords appeared. Seems quite a security hole; I'm reading that to close it, one should enable FileVault. I will probably do so.
