Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu, control-click the Desktop item, choose Get Info, and give yourself access.

I have this problem saving files from Mail to my desktop, The file “Desktop” couldn’t be opened., EVERY DAY. I reinstalled Catalina, I've run disk /utility repair. I can't spend an hour every day repairing permissions. It fixes it for the day and the next day it's back. Catalina is a disaster. So many things were broken. Apple should have made a major warning to upgraders. I can't work like this. Will have to use my Windows machine.

Anyone else have this problem...or even a solution???

Just ran into this, Preview App is not allowed to save a file to the Desktop?!?! What is this?

Catalina is unstable. A reboot fixes it but it drifts over a half a day and another reboot is required. Folder permissions are broken, "share your ethernet network connection over wifi" is broken, can't do a recovery disc startup without wifi (I have ethernet at work)... not sure what else is broken

I even tried giving Word full disk access and it doesn't work

Hmm, as previously stated... it helped with a restart of the computer. But that's what I used to tell my Windows friends as a joke when they had mysterious and unexplainable problems.
