Possibly. However, you should make a complete backup of your notebook anytime you perform an upgrade ... just in case something doesn't work out. You can do this with Time Machine and/or use a cloning app, like Carbon Copy Cloner, to make a bootable backup of your notebook's internal drive to an external one. The reason for doing the latter is so that you can always boot up your notebook from this clone and continue where you left off should the occasion to do so arises. Just a precaution.

Let us know if you need any further assistance with this ... or you can visit your local Apple Store and they can help you with this as well.

FYI, iOS is an operating system used on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, & iPod touch). OS X or macOS is an operating system used on Macs.

... so with that said, your post is a bit confusing. Are you saying since you upgraded your 2018 MacBook Air, you are not able to upgrade one of your iOS devices to iOS 10.12? Since there is no iOS 10.12 version, did you mean to say you can't update the MacBook Air to macOS 10.12 (Sierra)?

... and if the latter is the case, you can't upgrade to an earlier version of macOS than that came with your notebook.

Hi sorry, I was writing this in class so I was slightly distracted haha. My Macbook is currently in 10.11.06 version. I tried downloading apps from the app store and it keeps saying I am unable to download them because I need the 10.12 version. So i went and checked to see if I am able to upgrade my macbook to 10.12, but it just says there is no updates available, meaning I can't upgrade my macbook.

Ha, been there, done that.

What exact version is your MacBook. You can find out by clicking on the Apple icon on the upper-left hand side of the macOS menu bar and looks what's on the Overview tab.

To get the exact version, hold down the <option> key before clicking on the Apple icon, and then, select the "System Information" option from the drop-down menu. In the pop-up window, select Hardware from the left-side window. The exact model will be listed after "Model Identifier" on the right-side window. It should be something like: MacBook2,2
