Whenever I have any music playing in iTunes (Apple Music) and I try to add a song not currently in my library, the music automatically freezes and the playback window goes blank, seeming to forget it was playing anything before I clicked "download" or "add to playlist". This issue has been constant on my current and previous Mac over the past few years.

Please make sure your software and system were updated to the latest version.
If the issues still existed, there should be something wrong with your system.
Perhaps you can consider to reinstall mac OS.

As I said in my initial post, the issue has persisted over two Macs and several years, so... countless software updates and an entirely new computer later (set up as its own device, not from backup) and the issue is still plaguing me.
