Trying to update Mac Mini to Catalina

My Mac is stuck at “an error occurred while removing the previous system. Quit the Installer to restart your computer and try again. Have tried this 5 to,Ed now and it just brings me back to this screen. Any ideas how to get past this?

If you have backups of your Mac mini, the other option is to boot up in Recovery Mode, use Disk Utility to erase its drive, and then, install macOS Catalina. This would provide your mini with a "clean" install of the OS. You can restore any data & apps from your backups.
