Apple TV as a substitute for iTunes for playing Movies on a PC

If I download and run the Apple TV app on my Windows 10 PC will I be able to play movies that I previously purchased on iTunes? Recently I've been unable to get them to play on my PC no matter what I do on iTunes.

You cannot run the Apple TV app on a Windows computer. You may find that streamed content works when downloaded media doesn't. Is your monitor connected via HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA? Are you getting HDMI content warnings or is the display just black?

My monitor is connected with just a VGA cable. The display is just black, although I can remember getting HDMI content warnings in the past. I've updated my iTunes and tried restarting my computer, but I always end up with just a black screen when I go to play the movie. The movie plays fine on my Apple devices.

Thanks

I was able to swap to DVI and that did solve the problem. However I had to restart my computer three times, because iTunes kept locking up when I tried to play the movie and I had to use Task Manager to shut it down. Hopefully that won't keep happening. Thanks for your help.
