How do I restore my iPod Classic and add music etc. with the newest MacBook operating system Catalina?

Catalina should be able to restore an iPod classic via a dialog page in Finder. It failed to complete properly for me so I used a different OS for the restore. Syncing to the restored device is managed through Finder also.
