Spinning Wheel of Death

Hey all,

I am just wondering how to get to get rid of the spinning wheel of death. My the MacBook Pro I previously used It would often come up when using Safari and would not allow me to click on any of the links or enter text on the webpage. With my new iMac it also comes up when using Safari, but I can use this spinning wheel to click on links. Just wondering what causes this to come up, as I am maxed out on RAM and once again wondering how to make it go away.

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.14

Besides being annoying, frequent appearance of the "wait cursor" is not normal.
