Hi,
I can't download Catalina using Software Update in System Preferences although it shows a notification that I have an update available. It does not work even using the App Store.

I solved with below command.
sudo softwareupdate -l --all --force --reset-ignored
then
softwareupdate --reset-ignored
Then, I go to software updates and I see new version Catalina.

I ran into this same problem trying to download the new Catalina update on my MacBook Pro. Somebody else somewhere on this board said go into settings, date/time, and then UNCHECK automatically update date and time, and then restart, and download the update again. I did this and it worked fine.
That worked!!! But, I wasn't sure what to do with that code. I'm a designer not a developer, sometimes you tech heads needs to dumb it down for us! I assumed I needed to cut and paste each line into the terminal which is what I did. It worked. Thanks!!!
You're right Killerb1. I didn't specify what to do with those lines of code. I'm glad you figured out a way to solve the problem. Thank you for writing your experience. That might help others who come looking for a solution.

Actually, my problem was slightly different upon rereading the details above. Might still be worth a shot though, as mine downloaded the update, but then could not verify. Sorry if I was confusing.
