Help please.I purchased my Mac Book Pro in 2016 and after 3 years I still can’t figure out how to get it to log me in with my password.

Please don’t judge me for taking so long to getting around to this. My husband passed away and then I was diagnosed with cancer and have only now been able to get around to trying to solve this problem. I did try a couple of times before but spent hours on it to no avail. Please can someone help me.
